by lady silk If your former lover was given the task to design a shoe and create a story about your failed relationship, how would that go? In my head my shoe would be a purple, acid yellow and black, graffiti printed, hard to walk in, dangerously sexy stiletto called "The Fly 1" accompanied by a long, rambling antidote about confusion, fashion and ghetto love songs lol. Artist Sebastian Errazuriz "explores love and sex through the memory of 12 previous relationships." Inspired by former lovers, Errazuriz has created 12 distinct Shoe Sculptures along with satisfyingly voyeuristic photographs and personal back stories to the relationships. The exhibit is on display until Jan. 6, at the Melissa Pop- Up store in Miami, and while very revealing, this type of thing is almost expected of the creative, provocative, thought provoking, and extremely ballsy artist. Errazuriz thrives on creating artwork that is personal and hits close to home, like the Cross of Lights, a public piece consisting of a cross of florescent lights on a 33-story building to show support to the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 2 months. A few of Errazuriz's themes include culture, political statements and death. I like the way he looks at everyday practical items and turns them into "Omg and wow" moments with designs like the Cocaine Slab he made for friends, or the silver painted Life and Death fire extinguisher and the kinda creepy, but very cool Boat Coffin. Check out the gallery below for a few sculptures and make sure to visit 12 Shoes for 12 Lovers for the rest of the series.
