The end of 2015, a very fabulous and stylish year if I do say so myself (obviously said in my Jay Z voice lol). Reading over my old blog posts got me thinking about the best of the best in fashion and pop culture- the people, the news, the happenings, so here is my "best of" list- all random and all my opinion but please join the conversation and tell me whether you agree or disagree with my choices!
STREET STYLE AWARD:
Zendaya Coleman is the cutest thing ever to me- she dresses her age and has fun with it and she can wear almost anything. She took risks on the red carpet and at premieres, but I really dig her street style- how she dresses when she's not "on". She's a super stylish cutie and I can't wait to see her style evolve as she gets older.
*I also wanted to mention the major fashion industry shakeups of the past twelve months. There have been so many new "fires and hires" that it was almost hard to keep up!
After 30 years of running her own fashion brand, Donna Karan resigned from the namesake label she built (Donna Karan New York) and sold it to French luxury goods owner, LVMH. There will be no more runway shows for awhile and the firm will concentrate solely on the less expensive urban line, DKNY which will be run by industry darlings Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourne of the award winning street smart brand Public School. Read more here.
No longer a disgrace to the fashion industry, designer John Galliano was tapped to design for Maison Margiela. The first collection for the fashion house was actually designed by the label's design team and it wasn't until the second collection that Galliano really took over. Some liked it, some did not, you can read one review here...
Alexander Wang left Balenciaga, the French heritage label he took over in 2012 when the brand's former designer Nicholas Ghesquire left to design for Louis Vuitton. He never really quite found his footing with the collections and despite his redesigning new stores, creating an in demand bag (Le Dix) and having Kate Moss and others stars in memorable campaigns- it was not enough. Wang is now currently looking for investors in his namesake label. Want more info on this? Read about it here...
Not even a week a part, designer Raf Simmons left Dior citing the lack of time to properly create collections and Alber Elbaz was pushed out at Lanvin after 14 years of designing for the label, maybe for creative differences with the upper brass. As of right now, neither label has confirmed who will take over.
Founding editor in cheif Linda Wells was ousted by Conde' Nast after being at beauty magazine, Allure for 24 years. Lucky magazine and Details magazine, both Conde' Nast publications have also been put on the chopping block, Lucky ceased printing earlier this year and Details last issue will be it's December/January 2016 issue. GQ magazine hired a newer, younger (ahem and darker) Style Guy, and the old Style Guy wasn't too pleased.
