When it comes to fashion, you either go hard or go home. There’s no in between! As a form of self-expression, your outfit is your chance to really shine and feel as confident as ever. Of course, it would be rude of you to keep this epic outfit to yourself, which is why you should share it with as many people as possible. I’ll always encourage others to show off their outfits on Instagram, or even start their own fashion blog, because it’s a chance for us to all feel empowered by fashion as a community. However, photographing your outfits isn’t as easy as it sounds.
Know Your Colors
Although I’m the kind of person who wears every color under the sun, I’ve come to learn that there are certain colors that photograph better than others. While bright colors may make you feel like a pretty flower, darker colors will always make your outfit pop in front of the camera. That’s because these dark colors are less likely to pick up on the pesky flash of your camera, and are therefore less likely to pick up on any inconsistencies within the pattern or block color. It’s always best to opt for blacks and blues, and Armani Collezioni definitely has your back this season. Just look at those blues!
Choose Props that Pop
When I’m feeling my outfit, I want to do everything I can to show the whole thing off for the rest of the world to see. However, sometimes a photograph of the outfit just isn’t enough. Sometimes you need something extra to really make your clothes pop, and this is where props come in. You don’t need to look too far on Instagram to see people posing with their donuts and their umbrellas, and that’s not just to look cute. These props help to bring out the aspects you love about your outfit, so it looks even more amazing on a screen.
Perfect your Poses
Is there anything better than finding the perfect poses that complement your body shape and your outfit? I think not. Just look at my favorite fashion moments ever and tell me you need to stick to one pose! Posing has a huge impact on how well your outfit photographs because you can easily cover up certain aspects of your style if you’re not careful.
If you’re in doubt on how to pose for your photo shoot, try out different options and look through your camera roll to find the ones that are more flattering. The only difficulty you’ll find is if all of your poses rock, and you just don’t know which ones to choose...
Check on the Quality
Although I just have to look in the mirror to know that my outfit is on point, the quality of the outfit can often be lost in a photograph. Before you know it there are wrinkles everywhere, you realize you buttoned up your shirt the wrong way, and you have lipstick on your teeth. So, it’s always important to make sure that you check on the quality of your outfit before you get snap happy. Give your outfit a steam, double-check your makeup, and work that camera. It also helps to have these wardrobe heroes in your closet as well.
Make use of your Accessories
No outfit would be complete without a few accessories. I’m a big fan of the chunky necklace and rarely leave my house without something to give my outfit a little sparkle. Although your outfit choice may be a style sensation, it’s always so much better when you add accessories into the mix. Whether you choose to wear a necklace, bracelets, or even a pair of sunglasses, they will all show your fans that you have what it takes to make a complete outfit.
It’s not easy taking a photograph that shows off your awesome outfit, but following a few stylish rules will give you the chance to become a pro in no time. Do you have any other tips to add to this list? Let me know your suggestions in the comments!
