Cleveland, Ohio fashion designer and show producer Vaughn Glover is what I would call a "designer's designer", meaning his sewing skills and techniques coupled with his superior manipulation of fabrics and detailing make him a favorite among those in the industry, but the same skills help entertain and wow a local crowd of fashionistas at his annual fashion shows. This year at the The #Highsewciety Sewcial Runway of Life show presented by Waki Wear Productions on March 24th, 2019, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Beachwood, Ohio was no different.
The show was broken up into two parts and I'm still upset that I missed the very first half due to a previous fashion engagement. I walked in right at the beginning of intermission just in time to hear live music and to sneak backstage to see the second half designer's scramble to add finishing touches to their model's outfits, go over the lineup and to calm last minute concerns and jitters.
One thing I love about attending a Waki Wear Productions fashion show is the extreme focus on menswear fashion and design. The majority of local fashion shows only cater to women's fashion, so it is always refreshing to see when men are the focal point and not used as a prop or an afterthought in a show. Men want to learn and experiment with the latest trends too, and with his signature Xalter Zaughn Collection, Glover shows them just how it is done!
Glover gives FASHION with a capital F while using the magnificent male figure as a hanger for avant guarde pieces, vests, attachments and accessories including masculine bags, capes and hats. He utilizes his infamous cirque du soleil fabric technique to highlight men's body's and individual style in a way that mixes fashion forwardness with raw sex appeal that is part fashion show/ part male revue and year after year his audience eats it up!
Another thing about Waki Wear shows that I look forward to is the discovery of new talent! Glover always features the best of the best designer's allowing them a platform to showcase their work and get support from the city through competitions, showcases and other fashion events throughout the year. Many designers and models in Cleveland got their start in a Waki Wear show and always seem to come back to show love and support.
Usually when it comes to fashion shows, the women attendees are traditionally the show stoppers, but at Glover's shows the men show up and show OUT! Guests also include a stylish mix of Cleveland's fashion glitterati ranging from former models, fellow designers, a great mix of vendors and of course the best dressed after church crowd, fashionistas and well dressed family members who come to support up and coming local fashion talent, hear live music, eat a good meal and be entertained. It's a guarantee that when you attend a Waki Wear production you will get all of that and then some!
Design and show production wise, there is no reason why Vaughn Glover should not be showing his collection in New York, or Paris, but for the past 29 years we have been blessed to witness it here in Cleveland and hopefully will continue to see much more!
Have you ever attended a Waki Wear production and saw Vaughn Glover's fashion collection? If so what did you think? Tell me about it in the comments...
