In the past three years I have attended so many fashion shows blogging with my FlyGirl Chronicles series that I had to sit down and take a break for a minute! It is so easy to get burnt out when you do something repeatedly with no breaks (even if you love it) and before that happened I decided to get choosy about what shows I attend and cover because I'm not gonna lie- it can get boring and exhausting as hell- the waiting, the erratic temperatures, the repetition of models and designers- it can be a lot! It's the exact opposite of actually being behind the scenes where it's constant motion and action. However I do love it and now I try to attend fashion shows that seem to offer something different- like the last two shows that I saw.
As a fashion stylist it is important for me to have immediate references at any given moment and my head is full of them: vintage movie stills, runway shows from the 80's and 90's, album covers and fashion campaigns from decades ago, cinematography from foreign films, posters of my favorite rappers and singers from Word Up magazine, television shows from the 70's and 90's, images from 70's, fashion photography, childhood book covers and most importantly- song lyrics. Read on about how one particular line from rapper Andre 3000 helped style my shoot with photographer Jasmine Golphin of Welcome to Midnight...
I have loved fashion since I was a young girl and it has had a huge impact on the way I think, move and function in my everyday life even to this day. I am a fan of the industry and everything that comes with it- the designers, the clothes, the models and the movements that got us here. When I think back to what really got me involved and wanting to be in this industry, there were several standout moments that got me here. And I want to share them with you here...
