Transgender models walking the runway has been fashion's most open secret for decades now, so it's no surprise witnessing the mainstream uprising of transgender models. openly snagging fashion and beauty campaigns. I love the idea behind H&M's sister store & Other Stories all transgender photo shoot- which starred not only fast rising transgender models Hari Nef and Valentijn De Hingh- but the crew also consisted of a photographer Amos Mac, a stylist Love Bailey, and a makeup artist Nina Poon, who all identify as transgender. Who better to shoot you than someone who knows your struggle? Read more about it on Elle.com

You probably know more about the people associated with Bethann Hardison than you actually know about her...for instance: her son, the actor Kadeem Hardison of a Different World fame, (he played DeWayne Wayne) or supermodels Naomi Campbell, Veronica Webb, Kimora Lee Simmons, Roshumba, Cynthia Bailey (yes of RHOA fame) and Tyson Beckford- all of whom she discovered, coached and/or signed to her agency, the Bethann Management Agency in the early nineties. Ms. Hardison’s contributions to fashion cannot be denied and her history goes way back and continues to be recognized...
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Hardison attended both the New York University Art School and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Working as a saleswoman in the garment district she was discovered by legendary fashion designer Wili Smith and became his fit model before trying out print and runway modeling in the 70's. Along with Iman, Pat Cleveland, Beverly Johnson, Billie Blair and Alva Chin, she helped change the way fashion was being presented on the runway by top designers. At the end of her modeling career, instead of fading to black, Bethann opened up her agency and help usher in a "new look" for runway models in the early 90's. She then started the Black Girl's Coalition to celebrate the black models working in abundance in those days.
Hardison still continues to fight and be a voice for new up and coming black models. Teaming up with Naomi Campbell and Iman, Hardison recently wrote an open letter to the industry calling out several designers and fashion houses including McQueen, Chanel, Prada, Versace, and Marc Jacobs for their lack of diversity on the runway and in ad campaigns and a call to do something about it. She continues to be a champion and voice for the voiceless black models that exist today. Ms. Hardison’s contributions to fashion cannot be denied and her history goes way back and continues to be recognized...
Are you super sad that you can't afford designer Christian Louboutin's shoes or the high end lipstick? Don't worry, the luxury brand has you covered- literally! On Friday, Louboutin launched a new app, 'Louboutinize' that allows users to use a filter over their photos.
Available only to IPhone users at the moment, the app has three filters with plans to add to the list monthly.
The filters right now include: "Rouge" which paints an uploaded photo the designer's signature color red, "Crystallize" places a broken glass mirror like effect filter similar to a bottle of nail lacquer the brand launched last year, and "Legs" which attaches the bottom half of user photos to Dita von Teese legs, and six other uh- interesting limbs. The brand will compile the most creative submissions of the month to share and has plans to launch a version for men in September.
I mean, if it's to raise more brand awareness or exposure then I guess I can see why this is a thing, but honestly unless they add more appealing features (not to mention a version for Android) then I'll probably stick to the photo filter apps I already use.
Writer Rosey Cherrington of the Huffington Post UK tried the app and was not impressed lol. Read about her experience with it here...

Everyone's fave emo rapper to love/hate has finally set a release date for the "OVO" edition of the Air Jordan 10's. Big branding changes have been going on in preparation for this season's IMG New York Fashion Week! The event has a new name: New York Fashion Week: The Shows, a new logo, it was split in two to accommodate menswear (first time ever!), it lost a few sponsors and switched locations. They have also added American designers back to the roster that had fled due to the chaos of seasons past including Ralph Lauren, DKNY, and Tommy Hilfiger. Aaand it will be harder to get an invite. Insert sad face. Find out what to expect here..
The fashion world lost another one when Montreal born couturier Arnald Scaasi, the legendary designer to the first ladies and stars passed away this Tuesday at the age 85. Scaasi studied under the house of Paquin and Charles James, opening his own couture shop in 1964. Made famous in pop culture after designing Barbra Streisand's risque (she had no idea that it was see through) Oscar ensemble in 1969, Scaasi dressed stars and first ladies including Diahann Carroll, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy and Hilary Clinton. Oh, and the clever fox changed his last name from Isaacs to Scaasi- how gangsta is that? Find out more about the iconic designer's life here...
Ladies get ready to clutch your pearls (and your credit cards)! Now that everybody and their mama owns a pair of "red bottoms" aka Christian Louboutin shoes, the designer has added beauty to his repertoire. Last year he debuted a signature line of nail polish and this fall will launch a lipstick collection. Obviously anything associated with Louboutin will have a certain glamour attached and this lip color collection is no exception! The luxurious design of the bullet alone is a work of art and the packaging has been described as looking like "Mermaid tails dipped in precious metal and then capped off with headgear stolen from the Crown Jewels.."
The line features 36 shades in 3 different textures; Silky Satin, Velvet Matte, and Sheer Voile, all inspired by Louboutin's bags and shoes. Each collection has a Signature Rouge in a black lacquer case that stands out from the liquid gold ones. Inspiration for the overall feel of the collection came far and wide with everything from Middle Eastern antiquities, Art Deco and Babylonian architecture being a major influence. Not just used to color in your lips, the containers also doubles as a high fashion statement necklace with a thin gold ribbon attached to the cap, which kinda maybe justifies the $90 price tag...
And if that doesn't help you come to terms with this beauty "investment", then maybe this quote from Mr. Louboutin himself will...
"After the eyes, lips represent the most expressive element of the face. And there’s the fetish appeal, because lipstick can transform a face from intense to naive or even dangerous. When a woman carries a handbag, we look at her shoulders. When she slips on a pair of heels, we observe her walk. If she applies lacquer to her nails, we admire her hands. With its slow, circular application, lip makeup becomes a rich and sensual gesture."
*Fans face* The collection will be available at Saks in September...
#AaliyahforMAC is heavily trending on Twitter after superfans start a change.org petition for the deceased songstress to get her own M.A.C limited edition makeup collection. The campaign came about shortly after it was announced that late Latina music icon Selena Quintanilla would be honored with a posthumous collection for the popular cosmetics line in 2016.
Aaliyah's loyal followers agree that it would be a good look for M.A.C to dedicate a line inspired by some of Aaliyah's most popular looks including smokey eyes, diamond lashes, colorful eye shadow and bright lip colors.
The campaign has gotten high profile support via social media from Aaliyah's mentor and friend Missy Elliot, radio personality and old school hip hop star, Monie Love and most importantly from the star's brother Rashad Haughton, who along with the family has always been cautious about preserving the singer's legacy. At the time of this publication, 1,864 supporters have signed.
I think Aaliyah would be an awesome choice for a MAC collection and the move would continue to preserve and honor the beloved singer's legacy for a whole new wave of fans. And anyway, can't you just imagine the bright lip colors, the dark eye shadows and all the super awesome eyelashes that would be included in the collection?! Not to mention the actual ads and the packaging, whew! Sign the petition here. In the meantime, enjoy a gallery featuring a few of Aaliyah's most vibrant beauty looks courtesy of Fabulizamag.com!
