#FashionPorn: Last week JW Anderson live streamed his gender fluid fall/winter 2016 collection on the gay dating app Grindr and this week British designer and activist Vivienne Westwood- the one who brought on the punk rock movement with her legendary London boutique, Sex- has cast porn star Colby Keller in her Spring/Summer 2016 campaign entitled Mirror the World. The campaign which was shot around the alleys, canals and shipyards of Venice is meant to raise awareness of the problem of mass cruise ship tourism and climate change that is decaying the beautiful parts of the city. Keller, with his scruffy beard is photographed in high heels and fishnets among other fun things lol. There are more photos on her website but some are NSFW! None of the models are wearing the penis necklace she sent recently sent down the runway BTW...
Grace by Fire: Flame haired stylist Grace Coddington, Vogue magazine's creative director for over 25 years, is stepping down from the postion to take on other outside projects including developing a fragrance with Comme de Garcons. The 74 year old started a career in modeling at age 17, worked as a fashion editor for British Vogue in her 20's, did a brief stint working for Calvin Klein and then in 1988 was hired as creative director of American Vogue under editor in chief Anna Wintour. Coddington is known for her fantasy filled fashion stories and preference of models over celebrities, will still serve as creative director at large and will contribute to at least 4 fashion stories throughout the year. I love this round up of her some of her best editorials by dresstokillmagazine.com! Easy Breezy Beautiful: Nineteen year old actress Zendaya is the new face of CoverGirl joining the diverse ranks of Rihanna, Gwen Stefani and Janelle Monae . The outspoken star took to her Instagram account and hinted at the partnership on Thursday and later followed up with a video officially announcing the move. Welp I can't wait for the cute AF tutorials! Alexander the Great: The late avant garde designer Lee Alexander McQueen will be getting a biopic sometime next year! British director Andrew Haigh will be basing the story off of McQueen's 2015 biography 'Blood Beneath the Skin' written by Andrew Wilson. McQueen committed suicide in 2010, days after his own mother's death, had a legendary rise and fall fashion story... He grew up in the working class section of London before apprenticing on Savile Row and earning a degree at Central Saint Martins, from there he went on to design wardrobe for David Bowie's 1996-1997 tour and designed a few seasons for Givenchy before fully focusing on his own label and dramatic fashion shows. His personal life was openly tragic as he had an ongoing affair with drugs and bad failed relationships so I would love to see how they would approach this on screen while keeping his fashion houses's design legacy and integrity in tact. The entertainer might seem like an odd choice to come out with his own pair of cross trainers, but if you follow him on Instagram you know that he is a fitness advocate and follows an intensive training regimen. Check out his #MovewithHart social media campaign and see for yourself! The shoe drops in April so you have plenty of time to get with it! For more info read here.
Outta this World Style: Wanna travel to outer space but don't know what to wear? Don't worry Y-3 and Virgin Galactic got you! The active sportswear apparel brand Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto (you may know his work from being associated with Adidas) has been tapped to design sleek space suits and boots for future astronauts, pilots and space shuttle crew. The suits are all black, formfitting like wetsuits and has Adidas touches with the three stripe designs subtly incorporated. The boots are made of durable rubber and leather and are lined with a fire resistant material called Nomax, which is used on racing suits. Read Hypebeast's exclusive coverage here! Kendall and Kylie Klothes: Not only have Kendall and Kylie Jenner colloborated with Topshop and PacSun on trendy fashion collections, but now the young reality stars and business women are designing their own line of apparel and shoes! Kendall+Kylie will debut right in time for Fashion Week at stores like Saks, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales and online at sites like Shopbop and Revolve. The pieces will range from $60-$250... I wonder if it will do better than that Kardashion mess at Sears? Find out more about the line here. RIP David, Ziggy, Aladdin, etc... The fashion world lost yet another style icon when rock star David Bowie passed away from cancer earlier this week. The gender bending Bowie was married to supermodel Iman but was known for his music and even more famous for continuously reinventing his style. Many runway designs and fashion editorials have been based off his decades long fashion choices. All this week there have been numerous tribute posts dedicated Bowie, but this old one from thefashionisto.com is the most concise, take a look! It's awards season and you know what that means- runway looks on red carpet stars! The annual 2016 Golden Globes was on last night and as usual our faves graced the red carpet dripping in shimmering diamonds, sequins, and jewels. Sleek physiques were on display along with thigh high slits and plenty of decolletage. We also saw plenty of trains, capes, and dramatic collars and necklines too. It was tough, but my top five best dressed are below... Olivia Wilde looked AMAZING in this blood red sequin halter gown! This silhouette is giving off all sorts of red hot heat and I applaud her for wearing this simple but sexy number! Jennifer Lopes surprised me by covering up and still gave a LOOK in this gorgeous marigold Giambattista Valli cape and gown! She was all old Hollywood on top and modern sex symbol on bottom. Work JLO! I know some people hated her look, but I ADORED Cate Blanchet's flapper inspired Givenchy gown! The pale pink tassel looked like it moved with her when she walked and the open back gave you something else to look at as she was leaving! Many can't do it, but Zendaya is cool enough to pull off this tiered burgundy lace Marchesa gown with a plunging neckline. It looks like she has lots of fun on the red carpet... I loved Kirsten's elegant gothic Valentino gown! She gave off the most stylish Morticia Adams vibe- dark, sexy- maybe even dangerous! Many hated the plunging neckline, but I loved everything about this dress. There you have it! My top five for the 2016 Golden Globes... You can see more photos here.. Stars play it safe year after year and if you pay any attention to the runway shows and know which stars are under contract with what fashion house, the red carpets can get kind of boring and predictable. I love it when new comers or lesser known stars aren't afraid to take risk like some of my honorable mentions: Do you agree or disagree with my choices? Leave your comments below!
Luxe Coverups: Italian design duo Dolce and Gabbana have debuted a collection of hijabs and abayas aimed at the Middle Eastern market. The gorgeous headscarves and full length outer garments mimic the fashion house's spring collection featuring their signature lace detail and playful romantic prints of lemons, daisies and red roses... This is awesome considering Muslim shoppers literally spend billions on clothing all year round- not just around Ramadan like some designers would have you to believe. Fashion; always on the cutting edge of technology- but late as hell when it comes to RL situations. Read about this over at Vogue.com
Shady Ladies: There is a new street style trend racking up thousands of Instagram likes called lampshading. The lampshade silhouette is made when you pair a large sweater or tunic with over the knee boots. The look- which has been most recently seen on the Kardashian/Jenner clan, Hailey Baldwin and other celebs- was actually said to have been inspired by lazy college students wearing over sized sweaters over their shorts to class. How's that for the trickle down theory lol. See how to rock the trend here... Space Age Designin: Andre Courreges passed away from Parkinson's Disease at the age of 92 this past Thursday. The futuristic French designer known for introducing gogo boots and mini skirt to the masses (along with British designer Mary Quant) studied under Cristobal Balenciaga before branching out into his own space aged inspired designs. His signature geo metric shapes, use of new materials and white and silver color palette were hard to miss in the sixties as he dressed everyone from first lady Jacqueline Kennedy to actress Catherine Deneuve and Miley Cyrus. See a slideshow of some of his work here. Yeezy Season Redux: Kanye West, GQ's Most Stylish Man of 2015 is set to drop his new album on February 11, 2016. While that may seem like just another day to fans of the rap artist, fashionistas know that date as the first day of New York Fashion Month and are wondering if West will show a collection to coincide with a music, or vice a versa... Read more about the release of Swish here.. I can't lie- I am kind of excited to see if he will stage a show on the same day and make it some multi media interactive live stream affair that only Yeezy could pull off.. I have personal goals and business goals, but every year I also maintain a short list of style goals as well. Here they are in no order of importance:
1. Dress up more: I organized my wardrobe and discovered an obscene amount of casual tees. Where the heck did they all come from lol? I need to style them in a less basic way, wear my heels and put more effort into my daily look. 2. Wear everything: I need to wear all my jewelry and clothes and clean out my closet every season (we really only have two in Cleveland: cold and hot lol). An easy way to monitor this is by making good use of hangers- every time I wear something I turn the hangers in. Those items in my wardrobe that are not turned I did not wear and need to get rid of them. 3. Try new makeup ideas: Last year I expanded my makeup routine to include various shades of purple lipsticks and this year I plan to include different color eyeliners and other cool tricks I always pin to my Pinterest boards but never seem to try. 4. Buy only what I love: I will buy only what I LOVE, not what I like just cause it fits me. I have to love my next purchases. I get caught up in the fantasia of shopping lol. 5. Use online money to shop: I have stores on Ebay and Poshmark that I need to update.. If I want to buy I need to sell. 6. Style my natural hair: I have so many styles that I want to try out and I need to stop being lazy lol. I also need to learn how to braid with added hair. Those are my 2016 style goals! Do you have any? What are they? |
