Movies, Makeup and More I met talented special effects makeup artist Teri Vaughan a few years ago on the set of a local horror movie. I was brought on as part of the costume department and Teri was the on set makeup artist creating scary zombie makeup looks. Super creepy and extremely realistic, I loved Teri's work, we became friends on Facebook and I have followed her every since. Upon obtaining a degree in forensic science, Vaughan got her first break after doing an alter-ego photo shoot and film production company Ghost Walk Films saw the photos online. Fascinated by her creativity, she immediately began working with the company creating cadavers for their projects which struck a passion in Teri to learn about theater makeup, followed by special effects makeup (SFX). Now the head makeup artist for the Ghostalk, Vaughan has been doing glamour makeup for ten years and SFX makeup for eight years. Somewhere along the way she developed a passion for body art and has been doing that for the past two years. Read ahead to find out the answers to All the Fly Questions with makeup artist Teri Vaughan... All The Fly Questions... WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT SO FAR? Painting celebrities faces such as '90s rapper Rah Digga, working alongside Cleveland makeup artist Alan Tuskes, (currently a judge on SyFy's special effects reality show 'Face Off'), New York Fashion Week, and movies. God allowed me to do it all. WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR TALENT? I discovered my talent in elementary school with drawing, singing and makeup. I didn't know what it would develop into- but when it comes to the arts, I have always pushed myself to see what my capabilities were. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME? I RELAX lol, but I also like cooking exotic foods from different cultures and watching movies for face paint inspiration. I love face painting and traveling- seeing diversity in other cultures and going home to make their food for my family. I like to spend time with family, drawing and practicing my craft. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A SHOOT? I arrive early to get a feel for the assignment, setup and to ask questions about the vision. I take into consideration the season, seasonal colors, skin tones, wardrobe... If it's a time period such as the 1920's pinup era- I ask what does the designer and photographer want for an over all look. WHAT DOES “FLY” MEAN TO YOU? Being unique and different and not afraid to stand out from everyone else- not following the crowd but being your own trendsetter. To me that's dope and fly as hell. WHAT ARE YOUR GO TO PIECES? A cute black dress with a flashy scarf and heels- you can never go wrong. WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU REFUSE TO WEAR? A leotard and stockings to me is so inappropriate to wear in public. IS THERE A MOVIE OR VIDEO THAT YOU REALLY LOVE THE FASHION IN? My fave movie was The Mummy, not because of fashion, but because of the makeup. It was so pretty and interesting; the tattoos, the colors, the clothes, etc. WHOSE CLOSET WOULD YOU LIKE TO RAID AND WHY? I would raid my mom's closet. She dresses classy, was a former model and she dressed to impress every where she went! She was always up on the latest fashion and still is. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OFF IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Know that it is not easy and quick. It takes time, years to not only perfect your craft, but for people to really notice your talent. Doors will close, but many more will open to give you a chance. WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU? I don't know. God knows, but whatever it is, I'm excited! I have some things in the works not ready to reveal yet, but trust- it's gonna be juicy! WHERE CAN WE FIND OUT MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR WORK? You can check out my work on Facebook: Beauty for Ashes and IMDb: Teri (Bridges) Vaughan
